Our Goal
We strive to create awareness of the severity of concussions by highlighting examples of how the media responds to head injuries.

Concussion Education
A concussion is a head injury that occurs during a blow or hit to the head that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull. This affects the brain, leading to temporary problems with memory, thinking, balance, and coordination.
Immediate symptoms that may occur include light sensitivity, headache, dizziness, nausea, and confusion. When a concussion occurs, loss of consciousness may occur, but in most cases, it does not happen.
The brain becomes more vulnerable after the first concussion and puts a person at higher risk for Second Impact Syndrome, which can lead to more serious implications in the future.
Current Media and Stories
For the 2025/25 season, the NFL issued a ban on smelling salts across all franchises. This is due to the ammonia-based chemicals possibly being able to mask symptoms of concussions when used.

Articles Misusing Terms
Articles have been misrepresenting players returning after a hit to the head by calling it "lion-hearted." Alternatively, they report that not returning would be called "cowardly". It also touches on how head injuries were only credited as such in 21% of cases.
National Institutes of Health
After week 6 of the NFL season, Brian Daboll and Cam Skattebo were fined 100k and 15k, respectively, while the Giants were fined 200k due to an incident where Jaxson Dart was brought into the concussion tent, and both entered the tent while Dart was being evaluated. Daboll was then caught screaming at the team's orthopedist, who had nothing to do with this process.
